Who will read my book or view my video?
Your Lifetime Legacy book or video is designed to be a family heirloom; a treasured gift of inspiration and love for future generations. It’s likely to be most fully appreciated by future generations when they reach 30+ themselves, as they become interested in their ancestry.
How will I know what to include?
Our questions act as platforms that launch you into talking about a wide range of eras, topics and experiences. You can choose to answer or to "pass" on any one of them. It’s entirely up to you. Your book or video, shares a wonderful snapshot of your life. Its not a woah-to-go account of everything that has ever happened. It'll include the events and memories that hold the most meaning to you. A Memoir is a 'memory', your memory. Every detail does not need to be recalled perfectly, it is often the feelings that went with the memory that come to mind most easily. Our process ascertains the key aspects of your life stories, and is structured to keep you on track, to keep things succinct and interesting and the flow of your story enjoyable for your reader/viewer.
How long should my book or video be?
A Lifetime Legacy Video is a 'mini-documentary', full of life (yours of course!). The final footage, with photos and music is usually 45-50 minutes.
A Legacy Memoir (book) we suggest, is 80-100 pages. If you require more chapters to cover other memorable sections and events in your life, we suggest you consider another volume, and enclose all final volumes into a slip-case.
'Magical Moments from my Lifestory' is set at approximately 48 pages. This gives you ten life-stage sections to cover the times/places/people/events and words of wisdom, that are most important to you.
How can I convince my parent/grandparent/friend that they should do a Lifetime Legacy?
A Lifetime Legacy (video or book) is something a person aspires to do themselves, and no amount of convincing can change that. However, your encouragement and support can be very empowering, and may give them the boost of confidence they need, especially if you let them know just how much it would mean to you and potentially to generations of your family. You could offer to set up and accompany them to our initial, no-obligation meeting where we can talk through the options, and see if this experience inspires your relative/friend to proceed. Also, you could consider a Gift Card as a way of taking the initiative. A Lifetime Legacy is the perfect gift from family to celebrate a milestone birthday.
Are my photographs and privacy safe?
Yes, we treat your photographs as if they were our own, and handle them like the treasure they are. We retain them for the minimum of time only, to facilitate scanning. We use the highest quality equipment and professionals in processing them.
Your privacy is paramount to us also. Any material generated and completed for you, once paid in full, remains entirely yours. We hold digital backup for one year post production, on a privately restricted service.
Can I sell my book?
Yes, and no, is the answer here. Although Lifetime Legacy is essentially designed for an audience of 'future generations of your family', you may also be contemplating offering it for sale. If you have a Legacy Memoir (book), then what you choose to do is entirely up to you. Essentially, you are deemed the writer of your book and once completed and paid for in full, you retain the rights to the work we create together. You may choose to self publish via Amazon or simply market it locally. Please note: I do not include an ISB serial number, so if you are intending to, or considering offering your book for sale, please refer to the New Zealand National Library (https://natlib.govt.nz/publishers-and-authors.isn) for details on completing this simple process, and supply me with the ISB number prior to the printing of your book. Certain disclaimers apply if you choose to sell your book as referred to in our Contract of Engagement (for example any photographs that include other people may require their consent to publish.)
A 'Magical Moments from my life story' (book), includes original artwork that is the copyright of Lifetime Legacy and consequently may not be offered for resale.
Video compatibility and storage
We are sometimes asked whether Lifetime Legacy Videos will remain compatible with future technology. The short answer is "absolutely, yes!" Technology has improved vastly in the last ten years. That is largely because today's technology does not require you to have all the equipment yourself (like in the the days of video tape players or DVD systems). Today's technology is Cloud based, meaning your video is safe and adaptable, both today, and into the future. Rest assured, your video is an enduring legacy, one that generations of your family will always treasure.
